Stauffer was bonded as the administrator of the estate of his mother Deborah Ziegler Bauer on 22 May 1863 in the amount of $2,000.5 Jacob B. Stauffer died on 5 March 1884 in West Vincent Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, at age 89 years, 5 months and 17 days.2,6,7 His obituary appeared in the Daily Local News in West Chester, Chester County, Pennsylvania, on 7 March 1884. It read:
     The Last to Answer the Roll Call.--- Jacob Stauffer, of West Vincent, died on March 5th, in the 91st year of his age. He was the last living member of General Hartman's company that served in the war of 1812. He was conscious until the last moments, and fell asleep in Jesus, having lived a Christain life, loved and respected by a large circle of friends. A death notice appeared in the same newspaper at that time, and it read:
STAUFFER--In West Vincent township, Jacob Stauffer, in his 91st year.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from his late residence, Monday, March 10, to leave the house by 11 o'clock.6,7
He was buried on 10 March 1884 in Chester Springs, West Vincent Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania.7
