     Bishop Jan Hermans Godshalk was born in 1695.2 He was the son of Bishop Jacob Henricks Godtschalk and Aeltien Symons Hermans.1 Bishop Jan Hermans Godshalk was also listed as being born in 1690.3 He married Helena (?) Bishop Jan Hermans Godshalk lived in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.4 He was a farmer and a wheelwright.4 He left a will on 14 May 1759.5 The transcript of the Will read:
In the Name of God Amen. Whereas I, John Godshalks of Hatfield Township in yE County of Philadelphia Province of Pennsylvania Turner, do find myselfe Jndisposed on my Body but blefsed be God of Sound Memory & Understanding and Considering that ye Nature of my Indisposition might before long End my Natural Life, in Consideration whereof I do hereby make my last Will & Testamt. this 14th Day of May A. D. 1759 in manner & form as follows Vizt.
Impris. I Will that all my Real & personal Estate Shall be sold after my Decease by ny Executors hereinafter Named & and all my Legal Debts & funeral Charges paid by them thereafter. Item. I give & Bequeath unto my Dear Wife Helena all that Estate Goods & Chattles which was her own---her Estate before She was Married to me and which I had with her at aie Time She was Married to me & one third part of all my movables for ye only use of her & her Heirs Besides Sixty Pounds Lawful Money out of the Sale of my Real Estate and to be paid to her two years after the Sale of ye sd. my Real Estate. But in Case the sd. my Wife should Dye before ye sd. Term of Two Years, the sd. Sixty Pounds Shall Devolve to mine & her only Son Jacob hereafter mentioned & in Case of his Death without Lawful Ifsue to ye Rest of my Children in Equal Shares, or ye Heirs of their Body; and In Case she Marries again her Husband Shall or she Shall reimburse ye sd. Sixty Pounds again to my Execurs: but she is to receive & use the Jnterest thereof during her Natural Life. Item. I give & Bequeath unto ye Dutch Baptist meeting (among which I am bred & Born & to whom I Confefs myselve to belong now) the sum of five Pounds Lawful Money of Pennsylva. to be paid at twelve Months after my Decease by my Execurs: unto ye Elders thereof & by them used for ye most Charitable & Christian purposes unto or among ye sd Meeting or Denomination. All ye Residue of my Estate I give & Bequeath unto my Eight Children Namely Barbara, Alice, Ann, Catharine, Susana, Elizabeth, Magdalene, & Jacob in Equal Shares, but in manner following, that is to say, whereas my Eldest three Daughters Barbara, Alice & Ann, are married before now & at that Time Received of me in Value as Marriage Goods to ye amount of Twenty four Pounds & Eleven Shillings every one of them; Likewise every one of my five Children yet unmarried or Minors shall have the same sums of Twenty four Pounds & Eleven Shillings allowance as their Marriage Goods, whereafter Equal Division Shall be made, and my Daughter Barbara married to Henry Overhols is to have one Eights part thereof for ye use of her & ye Heirs of her Body and to be paid to her of ye first Paymts accruing of ye Sale of my Estate, And to ye Children of my Deceased Daughter Alice, Namely John Stouffer & Mary Stouffer I give & Bequeath one Eights part thereof to be Equally Divided for them after they have attained their Lawful Age But in Case one of them Dyeth before ye sd. Age ye Survivor is to have that's Moiety of ye said Eights part of their Mother, and in Case the sd my Grand Children both dye before ye sd. Age ye whole Shall Devolve again to my other Children then alive in Equal Shares, and if one or more of them is Dead to ye Ifsue of their Body. Item. I give & Bequeath one Eights part of ye sd my Estate to my Daghter Ana Married to Peter Hendricks for ye use of her & ye Heirs of her Body, and to be paid to her after or at ye first paymt. made to my Daughter Barbara abovesd. and unto my five Children yet Minors & abovenamed I give & Bequeath one Eights part of ye sd. my Estate unto every one of them or the Heirs of their Body and to be paid to them according as they attain to their Lawful Age. But if one of them Dyeth before ye sd Age her or his Share shall Devolve to ye others of my Children or the Heirs of their Body in Equal Shares as above mentioned with my two Grand Children in such case. And I do hereby make & Consitute my Dear Friends Peter Custer of Worcester Township in the County of Philada. Yeoman & Dielman Kolb of Bedmaster Township in the County of Bucks Turner Sole Executors of this my Last Will & Testamt. and grant them hereby full & ample Power to sell my Estate as afsd. to the best Advantage for my Children and to Convey a Good & Lawfull Deed unto the Purchaser or Purchasers of my Plantation or Lands wth: the appurterances & Reversions thereunto belonging to ye only use & behalf of the sd.      Bishop Jacob Henricks Godtschalk was born in 1666 in Goch, Duchy of Cleves, Germany. He was the son of Gottschalk Thonis and Lehntgen Henrichs. Bishop Jacob Henricks Godtschalk married Aeltien Symons Hermans, daughter of Herman Davits and Trientien Symons, on 20 February 1689 in Goch, Duchy of Cleves, Germany. The date has also been given as 20 February 1688. Bishop Jacob Henricks Godtschalk was naturalized on 29 September 1709 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.1 He left a will on 26 December 1760.2 The transcript of the Will read:
In the Name of God Amen. Whereas I Jacob Godshalk senr of Towamencin Township in the County of Philadelphia (formerly while I was able) Turner having considered in my old age and the Certainty of my Death and being desirous that my wordly Estate hereafter may peaceably be shared among my Heirs after my Decease after my Decease therefore I do hereby this 26th Day of December in the Year of the Lord One thousand seven hundred and sixty make my Last Will and Testament as follows Viz. Imprimis. I give and bequeath unto my Son Herman all that Tract of Land or Plantation whereon I and him now dwell Containing One hundred and twenty two Acres and one half an Acre of land (be it more or lefs) according to the metes and Bounds conveyed to me together with all and singular the Appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaing to the only Ufe and Behoof of him the said my Son Herman his Heirs and Afsigns forever for which said my Plantation or Tract of Land he is to pay One hundred and twenty five Pounds in Manner following, that is to say twenty five Pounds lawful Money unto every one of my Children or their Heirs at the Expiration of one Year and one Day after my Decease Viz unto all the Children of my deceased Son Godshalf Twenty five Pounds thereof in equal Shares and unto all the Children of my deceased Son John twenty five Pounds thereof in equal Shares and unto the Children of my deceased Daughter Magdalena twenty five Pounds thereof in equal Shares and unto my Daughter Ana married to Peter Custard twenty five Pounds thereof and the Residuary twenty five Pounds my Son Herman reserves for himselve as his Portion thereof equal with his Brothers and Sisters. All the Residue of my Personal Estate shall likewise be equally divided into five Shares and every one of my above named Children is to have one Share thereof but whereas three of my said Children are deceased their Share or one Fifth Part of my whole Estate as aforesd shall again be equally divided among them according to their Number and paid to them if ye are twenty one Years of Age or upwards within two months after my Decease what is left of my personallities but their Share of my Real Estate at the Time of the above mentioned payment to be made by my Son Herman. But whereas the most of my deceased Childrens Children are yet Minors their proportionable Share shall be reserved for them by my hereafter named Executor until the attain their lawfull Age but in Case of Death as Minors their Share shall be equally divided unto such Minors Brothers and Sisters or their Heirs of or from their Body And I do hereby constitute and appoint my loving Son-in-Law Peter Custard sole Executor of this my Last Will and Testament and I do hereby make void and anull all my former Wills and Testaments and declare these Presents to be my only Will of Force after my Decease.

Philada 3d June 1763 then personally appeared Abraham Heidrich one of the Witnefses to the forgoing Will and on his solemn Affirmation according to Law did declare he saw and heard Jacob Godschalf the Testator therein named sign seal publish and declare the same Will for and as his Last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind memory and understanding to the best of his Knowledge, and that he together with Isaac Croll (now abst being disabled) did subscribe their names as Witnefses thereto at his Request. Coram Wm Plumsted RegE Genl.

Be it remembered that on 3d June 1763 the Last Will and Testament of Jacob Godshalf deceased in due Form of Law was proved and Probate and Lres Testamentary were granted to Peter Custard Executor in the said Will named being solemnly affirmed well and truly to administer the said Deceased's Estate and bring an Inventory thereof into the Register General's Office in Philada on or before the 3d July next and render a true and just Accompt when thereunto legally required. Given under the Seal of the said Office.
Wm Plumsted. RegE Genl. He died in May 1763 in Kulpsville, Towamencin, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, at age 97 years. He was buried in Towamencin Mennonite Meeting-house burial ground, Kulpsville, Towamencin Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.3 His estate was probated on 3 June 1763 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.4
