Cornelis Claessen

     Cornelis Claessen died in October 1708. He left a will on 30 September 1708.1 His will was translated from the German, the original transcribed in the Will Book and translated.1 The transcript of the Will read:
The last Will and Testamt. of Cornelius Claesen which he makes concerning his Land situate in GermanTown, giving & bequeathing the Same to the four Children of his Daughter equally to all Share & Share alike And she the sd Catherine Beeren doth also by these presents promise to pay for the sd land to each Child Ten pounds (which makes in all forty pounds) this Country money so as she same at this Time is Currt. And this is his desire & will Sign'd & Declared with his own Hand in the presence of the underwritten Wittnesses Ano 1708 the 30th day of September.

Philada., October 23d 1708, Then personally appeared the above named Jacob Gaetsosalch, Isack VanSintern, & Harman Kasdorp And on their solemn affirmation according to Law did declare they saw the above named Cornelius Claesen, the Testator Sign Seal, publish & Declare the above writing to be his last Will & Testament And that at the doing thereof he was of sound mind memory & understanding to ye best of their Knowledge.

Lieutent Govern of the Province of Pennsylv: &c. to Catherine Beerens of Phialdelphia, Widow, Greeting----Whereas Cornelius Claesen lately deceased Having whilst he lived & at the Time of his Death, Goods Rights & Credits within the sd Province & Countys made his last Will & Testament in writing (A true copy whereof is hereunto annexed) But therein nominates no Executor thereof. I desiring that the Goods Rights & Credits which were of the sd Decedt. may be well & truely administered Converted & disposed of re pious uses and the sd Testamt. have its due Effect Do hereby grant unto you the sd Catherine (In whose fidelity in this behalf I very much confide) full power by the Tenourof these presents according to ye Effect of the Testament aforesd. to administer the Goods & Chattels Rights & Credits that were of the sd Decdt. within the sd Province & Countys As also to Ask Collect Levy Recover & Receive the Credits whatsoever of the sd Decedt. wch. at the Time of his Death were owing or to him in any way belong And to pay the Debts in wch ye sd Decedt stood obligated so far forth as the Goods Rights & Credits will extend according to their Rate & Order of Law Especially of well & truely administering the same & making a true & perfect Inventory of all & Singular the Goods Rights & Credits of the sd Decedt & Exhibiting ye Same unto the Register Office at Philada. on or before ye Twenty third day of March next ensuring And rendering a true & just Acco. of your Adminstion on or before the Twenty third day of October 1709 pursuant to your Affirmation. And I do by these presents ordain constitute & depute you the sd Catherine Beerens Administratrix with ye Will annexed of all & Singular the Goods Rights & Credits of ye sd Decedt whch ye Limits aforesd Saving harmless & forever indemprifying me & all other Officers agn. all other persons by reason of ye Adminstration & Saving to all others their Rights
In Testimony whereof I have caused the Seal of the sd Office to be hereunto affixed Dated at Philadelphia aforesd. the Twenty third day of October in the Seventh year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lady Anne by the Grace of God Queen of Great Britain, France & Ireland Defender of the Faith & Anno Dmi 1708. Peter Evans, DReg. His estate was probated on 23 October 1708 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.1
